Partner Jennifer Rathburn was quoted in a Wired article, “California’s Privacy Law Goes Into Effect Today. Now What?” about the ramifications of California’s new consumer data protection law, formally known as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
Rathburn said companies need to have a short-term and a long-term CCPA strategy. “The final regulations come out; you’re going to have ballot initiative 2.0 coming out; and then you’re going to have potentially other state laws. This isn’t a one and done. This is an evolving area that’s pretty new to the U.S.,” she said. “In sum, privacy is here to stay.”
