Foley Associate Matthew Smith was quoted in an article that appeared on IP Law360 on January 26, 2010 titled “Speedier USPTO Could Mean More Stays For Re-Exam.” He discusses a study showing that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) is getting quicker at handling adversarial re-examinations. Smith, who co-authored the study, states that the increased speed of proceedings at the CRU is one area the USPTO can point to where its administration and initiative have resulted in an improvement in the system.
