Kelly Brandenburg is an associate with Foley & Lardner LLP, based in the firm’s Milwaukee office, where she is a member of the Mechanical & Electromechanical Technologies Practice Group.
Prior to joining Foley, Kelly was a summer associate in the Intellectual Property department of Nixon Peabody where she wrote opinions for clients based on freedom to operate analysis. She drafted office action responses, preliminary amendments and continuations in part. Kelly researched possible remedies against government infringers, foreign filing license requirements and divided infringement.
Kelly also obtained experience as a law clerk by drafting provisional patent applications and researching legal issues in preparation for oral arguments. She wrote office action response letters to clients and proposed solutions to claim rejections. Kelly edited claims for international patent applications and drafted letters to foreign associates while researching active patents and respective continuations for infringement possibilities for current patent applications.
Prior to Kelly’s career in law, she was a design engineer and assistant project manager at Metropolitan Mechanical Contractors Inc. Kelly designed mechanical systems in accordance with code regulations for commercial buildings and analyzed building conditions to establish viable design possibilities. She utilized system modeling programs to draw mechanical systems and produced drawings for installation. Kelly communicated with construction teams about design strategy and construction progress and estimated cost of jobs.
