James (Jim) McParland, Ph.D. is a partner and intellectual property lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP. Jim counsels clients in intellectual property matters, where his practice focuses on patent preparation, both U.S. and foreign prosecution, due diligence, and litigation support. Jim has experience in the areas of small molecule chemistry, pharmaceuticals, polymers, batteries, and medical devices. He is a member of the Chemical, Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Practice.
Jim earned his law degree from the University of Kansas School of Law (J.D., 2012) where he was a member of the Intellectual Property Law Student Association. He also earned his doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Kansas (Ph.D., 2009). He graduated, summa cum laude, with a degree in chemistry from Loyola University Chicago (B.S., 2003).
Prior to joining Foley as an associate, Jim served as a summer clerk in the Madison office where he assisted attorneys in the IP Department.
