Overview

Olivia Singelmann is a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP. She is based out of the Washington, DC office and is a member of the firm’s Government Enforcement Defense & Investigations, Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Securities Enforcement & Litigation, and Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) Practice Groups.

Olivia’s practice includes litigation matters, with a focus on representing clients in investigations and/or enforcement proceedings by the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). Olivia has experience representing companies and individuals in government and internal investigations relating to: the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and U.S. sanctions (OFAC) in both English and Spanish; public company accounting; compliance with public company audit standards; and criminal antitrust matters. Olivia also has experience representing businesses in a broad range of complex litigation matters before state and federal courts.

Prior to joining Foley, Olivia participated in the Georgetown University Law Center Domestic Violence Clinic where she represented domestic violence victims in Temporary Protection Order and Civil Protection Order proceedings in D.C. Superior Court. She also served as a summer associate in Foley’s Washington, D.C. office where she assisted attorneys in general litigation matters relating to securities enforcement, white collar defense, and business dispute resolution.

Recognition

Olivia was selected for inclusion in the 2018 –2021 Washington, D.C. Super Lawyers® – Rising Stars lists. She also received a 2022 & 2023 Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch recognition for Commercial Litigation.

Education

Olivia earned her law degree at Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., 2012) where she served as an online and development editor for The Georgetown Law Journal and received The Georgetown Law Journal 2012 Meritorious Service Award. She was also a pro bono pledge honoree, recognized for completing more than 175 hours of pro bono work. She received her bachelor’s degree from Duke University (B.A., 2008) where she majored in public policy studies and minored in German studies.

Community Involvement

Olivia represents clients seeking asylum and other similar relief in the United States, with a focus on women and girls fleeing gender-based persecution. She has experience representing clients before both U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services asylum offices and the Executive Office for Immigration Review courts. Olivia is also a co-founder of the Firm’s Racial Justice and Equity pro bono practice group (RJEPG).

Olivia also stays engaged in her community through her membership in the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church and the Junior League of Washington.

Publications

Olivia co-authored the article “Corporate Monitor ships – The Nuts and Bolts,” for a CLE presentation by the ABA Women in White Collar Subcommittee on June 15, 2017. She also co-authored, “Naming Bribe-Paying Third Parties Would Improve FCPA Compliance,” in the publication, The Anti-Corruption Report.

Languages

Olivia is fluent in Spanish and proficient in German.

She is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Maryland, before the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
