Jeff Atkin spoke on the topic of “Due Diligence for Wind Acquisition” on February 11 at Infocast’s Wind Power Finance & Investment Summit in San Diego. His session provided a nitty-gritty look at the due diligence phase of wind asset acquisition, identifying potential pitfalls to be avoided. Issues covered included conducting diligence for project company acquisitions versus assets acquisitions; single project versus portfolio acquisitions; unusual landowner arrangements; uncovering local and state permitting and approval issues; differences with early, mid and late stage developments versus operating projects; diligence strategies and timing based on the ultimate financing plans for the project; co-ownership and joint venture complications; and municipal, utility and tribal ownership issues. He also covered both the buyer’s and seller’s perspective.
He also presented welcoming remarks and introductions at the pre-summit workshop, “Buying & Selling Wind Power Assets” and moderated the panel on “Independent Wind Developers’ Perspective on Wind Financing and Development.”
