Mitchell Ford Named 40 Under 40 Class of 2010
Foley is pleased to announce that Jenice Mitchell Ford, senior counsel in the firm’s Detroit office, has been named to the Crain’s Detroit Business 40 Under 40 Class of 2010. Candidates named to this prestigious roster represent the best and brightest of Southeast Michigan’s business and nonprofit community who have accomplished significant professional achievements before the age of 40.
Mitchell Ford is a member of Foley’s Litigation Department and focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation matters with a specialty in real estate litigation. She joined Foley in 2001 after serving as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Anna Diggs Taylor in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan following graduation from Northwestern University School of Law.
Having benefitted greatly from the mentoring program at Foley, Mitchell Ford strives to pass on the knowledge she gained regarding firm management and client development to younger attorneys as she advances toward her goal of becoming partner. She is committed to the practice of law and has a strong desire to help young African American and women attorneys who are pursuing careers in the legal field. Mitchell Ford currently serves as Co-Chair of Foley’s African American Affinity Group, and member of the firm’s Diversity Committee and Litigation Department’s committee on professional development and training. She is also a former coordinator and tutor for the Wolverine Bar Association Minority Bar Passage Program.
Outside of her work with Foley, Mitchell Ford is utilizing her legal drafting and research skills to re-write Detroit’s charter as Chair of the city’s Charter Revision Commission. She was elected to the Commission after earning approximately 50,000 votes in a city-wide election. Mitchell Ford successfully used her campaign as an opportunity to engage Detroit citizens in conversations about the Charter through conducting numerous seminars at senior citizen homes and community centers, and by holding neighborhood association meetings. Having previously served on mayoral campaigns, transition teams for elected officials and the City of Detroit Board of Ethics, she has become familiar with the challenges faced and presented by municipal government and recognizes her position on the Charter Revision Commission as an opportunity to shape Detroit’s future.
We congratulate Jenice Mitchell Ford on the honor of being named to the Crain’s Detroit Business 40 Under 40 Class of 2010.
