National Law Journal
Partner Joe Jacquot contributed an article to the National Law Journal, “Old Consumer Protection Laws Don’t Necessarily Fit Sharing Economy,” on June 20, 2016. The article discussed how the sharing economy is impacting consumer protection. Jacquot said, “the goals of consumer protection should remain relevant and vibrant, including prohibitions on discrimination, deceptive marketing and fraud. Yet today certain consumer regulations often are not applied in ways that match consumer needs.” He continued to discuss how pro-consumer innovation enables consumer-led protection and suggests a new regulatory model that seeks to free consumers to optimize their own economic benefits, choices, risks and enjoyment.
