Senior Counsel Adam Losey was quoted in a Forbes article, “Google Sees Barrier in Michigan’s Driverless Car Plan; Lawmakers Say They’ll Tweak,” on September 16, 2016. The article discussed new state legislature in Michigan permitting the testing of self-driving cars on public roads, which Google and other tech companies are pushing to be a part of. Losey said the timing for truly driverless tests is right, especially considering the high number of deaths from traffic accidents in the United States last year. He said, “I have the utmost respect for the human brain, but it is not built to handle the incredibly complex high-speed visual, auditory and tactile sensory inputs, and to then make the life-and-death complex mathematical calculations and decisions on a split second basis. We do an admirable job with what we have, but computer systems are better at these kinds of tasks than we are.”
