26 August 2019
Partner Jennifer Rathburn was quoted in the Women’s Wear Daily article, “Intellectual Property, the U.S. Supreme Court, Privacy” about California’s new data privacy law. The California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 will go into effect in January 2020 and is the first in the nation to give consumers protection over their personal data, including whether companies can sell it. Rathburn said the new law requires businesses to which the law applies to disclose the categories of information they collect from consumers, to whom they are disclosing it and what they are doing with it, among other provisions.
