Daniel Kaplan Comments on Labor’s Organizing Efforts in Clean Energy Space
Foley & Lardner LLP Partner Daniel Kaplan is quoted in the Law360 article, “Unions Eye Clean Energy Industry as Organizing Target,” about the burgeoning effort in the U.S. labor movement to organize within the clean energy industry, which is expected to create many non-union jobs in historically unionized sectors like energy, construction, and manufacturing.
Kaplan, the co-chair of Foley’s Labor and Employment Practice, told Law360 that, “this represents a shift for a U.S. labor movement built on heavy manufacturing … more recently, unions have targeted health care and retail as areas of growth. Now, amid the energy transition, the movement is following the winds in a different direction.”
Kaplan added, “What you’re starting to see is the labor movement is trying to be, I guess the term is, ‘hip,’ and I think because clean energy is a hip, socially conscious industry, it’s starting to garner a lot of attention.”
