Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that Kyle Hayes has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner in the Finance Practice Group and member of the Energy Sector, further enhancing the firm’s ongoing strategic national growth with respect to renewable energy projects and finance.
Hayes brings diverse experience representing clients in all phases of renewable energy project development and M&A, particularly with respect to solar, wind, battery storage, and renewable fuels, principally renewable natural gas and hydrogen projects. His client base consists primarily of infrastructure-focused private equity firms, renewable project developers, investor-owned utilities, corporate offtakers, and other domestic and foreign investors in the renewables space.
“As our New York office continues on a path of intentional growth, adding a well-regarded energy projects attorney like Kyle matches our strategic priorities,” said Anne Sekel, managing partner of Foley’s New York office. “Kyle’s extensive experience in the renewable and conventional energy sectors will strengthen our bench of experienced attorneys within energy and finance markets, ensuring that our clients receive optimal results. We are thrilled to welcome him to the team.”
Prior to entering private practice, Hayes served as in-house counsel to Con Edison of New York, where he handled various regulatory, transactional, and commercial matters concerning wholesale and retail energy markets. Hayes began his legal career at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, where he focused on ratemaking issues for electric utilities and gas pipelines.
“Kyle brings a unique skill set and perspective to the energy industry, having previously worked as both a regulator and utility in-house counsel prior to shifting his experience to the private sector,” said Jeffery Atkin, co-chair of the firm’s Energy Sector. “Beyond that, his broad and diverse projects experience, particularly related to biogas and hydrogen, will be invaluable to our clients in the decarbonization space.”
“Foley’s capabilities in the renewables and energy transition space, coupled with its notable reputation and particularly deep bench of energy-focused attorneys, made it a natural choice to continue to provide excellent resources for my clients who are focused on building projects, and ultimately platforms,” said Hayes. “I am thrilled to join a firm with such an outstanding grasp of the intricacies of our industry as it rapidly evolves, and I am ready to get started and collaborate with my new colleagues.”
