Foley Expands Private Capital and Energy Capabilities with Arrival of Corporate Partner Stephen Olson

Addition of leading dealmaker reinforces firm’s focus on guiding clients through investor-driven opportunities

Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that Stephen Olson has joined the firm as a partner in its Transactions Practice Group, further enhancing Foley’s private capital capabilities and continuing the growth of its national Energy & Infrastructure Sector. Olson joins from Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in Houston and is regarded as a leading adviser on sophisticated private equity deals and related corporate matters.

Olson advises private equity sponsors, portfolio companies, public and private companies, and investment banking firms on a broad range of transactions and strategic business matters. His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, registered offerings, private placements of debt and equity securities, corporate governance, and other transactional and corporate matters.

“We continue to see significant opportunity in serving clients whose business strategies are shaped by private capital, so we are focused on strengthening our capabilities to meet the evolving needs of investors and their portfolio companies,” said Daljit Doogal, Foley chairman and CEO. “Stephen brings deep deal experience, a strong sponsor-side perspective, and a practical understanding of how companies pursue growth and value creation. This commercial insight will undoubtably help our clients achieve their strategic objectives.”

Olson represents leading private equity firms and energy and industrial companies, helping them navigate complex transactions, growth initiatives, and strategic investments. He also advises clients in industries including chemicals, manufacturing, health care, technology, financial services, media, and telecommunications.

“Foley has developed an impressive offering for capital provider clients, particularly in areas where transactional strength and sector knowledge are both essential,” said Olson. “The firm’s strength in private capital and energy and infrastructure create a compelling opportunity to help clients pursue sophisticated investment strategies and navigate the full lifecycle of their businesses and assets. I’m excited to join a team with this depth of talent, market focus, and collaborative approach.”

Olson’s arrival adds to Foley’s continued investment in its multidisciplinary Energy & Infrastructure Sector, which has welcomed four new partners this year as the firm expands its ability to serve sponsors, developers, operators, and other market participants across the energy asset lifecycle.

“We are building a premier private capital platform that is fully integrated with our sector strengths. Stephen is a strong addition to our team and to the top-tier talent joining Foley across the board,” added Doogal.
