Daniel Farris Discusses Foley’s Lateral Integration Program and Data Centers Practice and in Q&A
Foley & Lardner LLP partner Daniel Farris is featured in Law.com’s “How I Made My Mark as a Lateral” series, reflecting on his move to Foley, the firm’s lateral integration program, and his work in the data center industry.
He credited the firm’s lateral integration program and its “structured approach with coordination across firm leadership, sectors, practice groups, marketing and business development, and professional development” with helping him easily transition into the firm when he joined in May 2025. The year-long program includes a personalized plan, regular check-ins, and continued support to help him make meaningful introductions, integrate into existing workflows, and set up new lines of work.
Farris said because of this program he “was able to get a handle on Foley’s full platform and offerings quickly,” which helped guide the direction of the data centers team in alignment with the firm’s broader objectives.
Data center clients need a “one-stop shop,” said Farris, who came to Foley because of its “deep Energy & Infrastructure Sector experience coupled with its Innovative Technology Sector experience.” He said the full range of complementary practices to support clients across the life cycle of a project and the ability to counsel clients on both the legal and technical issues is especially important as matters become more complex.
This platform, along with the firm’s collaborative culture, integrated approach to client service, and quickness to innovate and adopt technology allow Farris to meet the evolving needs of data center clients.
Looking back on his onboarding, Farris credited Foley’s people, integration program, platform, and culture with helping him quickly make his mark at the firm. His advice to other attorneys considering a move: “Come in with a plan and be intentional… you only get that first impression period once.”
