Claire Canestrino is a health care lawyer and a member of Foley’s Health Care Practice Group. Her practice focuses on regulatory, reimbursement, and health policy matters for health care providers, including hospitals and health systems, public and safety net providers, physician groups, and behavioral health providers.

Claire helps clients anticipate and respond to regulatory and legislative change. She reviews proposed rules and newly enacted laws, helps clients understand how those developments may affect their operations, and assists in evaluating options to advocate for policy change. Claire also supports clients on the regulatory and compliance questions that arise in day-to-day operations, including those related to Medicaid reimbursement and administrative appeals, behavioral health, and state licensure and scope-of-practice requirements.

Claire began her career at Foley as a summer associate. Prior to joining the firm, she was a disability policy intern for the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, and she interned for the Healthcare Rights & Access Section of the California Attorney General’s office. In these roles, she gained experience analyzing state and federal health care laws, monitoring regulatory activity, and evaluating the potential impact of policy changes on health care stakeholders. Before law school, Claire assisted physician groups with identifying underpayment risk areas and helped veterans secure disability benefits through the VA administrative appeals process. She continues to work with veterans through her pro bono practice.
