Paul R. Gierl helps clients navigate complex legal challenges, drawing on his problem-solving engineering background and varied legal experience. He brings a unique blend of legal acumen and technical fluency to support clients across a myriad of industries including those in the electronics, software, and mechanical technology sectors.

Paul is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department and the Commercial Litigation Practice Group. He originally joined Foley, after two summer associateships, as a patent attorney where he worked firsthand on patent enforcement regimes, patent prosecution and counseling, and legal research. During law school, Paul served for a semester as an extern in the Office of General Counsel at the University of Notre Dame where he assisted in-house counsel on various needs including regulatory compliance, contract disputes, and employment law issues. Paul also had the rare opportunity during law school to study the Law of Equity under two leading scholars in the field, and wrote multiple papers analyzing Equity’s history, practice, and remedies. Paul has previously interned at a Wisconsin-based law firm, assisting with personal injury, probate, and real estate disputes. He is eager to use his experience to serve his clients well and to assist them with all their needs.
