Linda Benfield and Sarah Slack Named to Environmental Law Powerlist by Wisconsin Law Journal

Foley & Lardner LLP partners and environmental lawyers Linda Benfield and Sarah Slack are named to Wisconsin Law Journal‘s Environmental Law Attorney Powerlist.

Benfield, highlighted here, told Wisconsin Law Journal that environmental law is about listening to and adapting behavior in a changing, complex world.

“Environmental law has always been about changing behavior — think back to Clean Air and Clean Water acts,” Benfield said. “I think there was more of a consensus then that those laws were necessary to protect us, and people were willing to change their behavior…I think the politicization that we see in our society has impacted our ability to talk about, and solve, environmental problems with a consensus.”

Slack, highlighted here, shared how her environmental, social, and governance practice offers fulfillment as the work is often more meaningful to clients than just “checking a box.”

“One of the things I enjoy about my ESG practice is that so much of it is driven by a company’s own goals that are set internally,” Slack explained. “A lot of what companies are trying to do, and targeting, are from their own efforts because they think it’s the right thing to do. A lot of times ESG is above and beyond, and it’s very interesting.”
