Alejandro Gómez-Strozzi and John Turlais Discuss Mexico’s Role in US Trade Strategy
Foley & Lardner LLP attorneys Alejandro Gómez-Strozzi and John Turlais analyzed Mexico’s expanding role as the United States’ leading trade partner in the Mexico Business News article, “Mexico Emerges as the US’ Most Competitive Trade Partner.”
In a recent Foley blog featured by Mexico Business, the authors discuss how significant tariff differentials are prompting companies to shift global supply chains out of China and towards Mexico.
The authors cautioned businesses on the “maquiladora fallacy,” however, which is when companies assume maquiladora status automatically guarantees duty-free access. They added that firms emphasizing compliance, origin planning, and tariff modeling will find Mexico remains the most robust platform in a high-tariff environment.
Gómez-Strozzi and Turlais commentary also appeared in Supply & Demand Chain Executive.
