Rebecca Bradley Shares Insights on AI Literacy Hopes for New Associates
Foley & Lardner LLP Chief Talent Officer Rebecca Bradley is featured in The American Lawyer article, “For Law Students, AI Literacy and Enthusiasm May Impact Big Law Employment Prospects,” offering perspective on how AI is factoring into expectations for incoming associates.
“We’re building an AI-first approach, so I’d want them to walk in with enough familiarity to recognize when AI can be an enabler in legal work but also know when human judgment has to lead,” Bradley said of her hopes for incoming first-years’ understanding of AI. “The goal should always be to use AI in ways that strengthen, not replace, human judgment.”
Given the fast pace of AI innovation, Bradley said, “firms aren’t necessarily looking for experience with each of the latest applications as much as practice in exercising good judgment about AI.”
“It’s not just adding AI to the curriculum, it’s centering training around a more modern version of legal work and being able to communicate their use of AI clearly and responsibly, including how to explain what they used, how they used it, and how that should inform the way their work is reviewed,” she concluded.
