AI Podcast Series, Episode 1: Setting the Stage with Technology Risk Expert Ken DeJarnette – Part One
Foley is thrilled to partner with the California Technology Council on the Artificial Intelligence Podcast Series as part of our combined efforts to help foster high-tech innovation, collaboration, and growth across the state and beyond. The series dives deep into areas of data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, and features Foley attorneys, clients, and other industry contacts as thought leaders on trending topics in AI.
Episode 1 opens with Antoinette Konski, Managing Partner of Foley’s Silicon Valley office, who offers listeners a look ahead at future topics the AI podcast series will explore. Next, we launch into part one of a two-part conversation between CTC chief executive Matt Gardner and featured guest Ken DeJarnette, an expert in technology risk who recently retired from a successful career as global risk and reputation leader at Deloitte. Together, they help set the stage for the series by exploring business trends in the use and culture around data tools for decision support.

Mr. DeJarnette kicks off the discussion by taking us on a journey through improved decisions from mass quantities of data to discerning more impactful decision-making. Ken highlights the importance of bringing fresh perspectives to every challenge: “Some of the greatest strides we made came to us from the most junior consultant who walked in and looked at something with no bias,” he suggests.
Ken then goes on to explore the role of industry openness as it relates to transformative technologies and corporate culture, particularly with regard to experimentation with new tools. Part one of our inaugural episode concludes with his reflections on the value of bringing inclusive, interdisciplinary perspectives to bear in dynamic organizations.
