Foley & Lardner LLP increased its ranking by 31 spots in the recently announced Diversity Scorecard, published by The American Lawyer, receiving an overall ranking of No. 92.
The American Lawyer 2022 Diversity Scorecard reflects the 2021 racial/ethnicity demographics for 219 law firms that participate in the survey. This year’s Diversity Scorecard included a revamped methodology with the resulting change that rankings are no longer solely based on a firm’s overall percentage of racial and ethnic minorities. Instead, the scorecard now takes a more nuanced look, examining by demographic category a number of factors including the racial/ethnic diversity of key firm leadership, the equity partnership, as well as the representation of women of color. Alexis Robertson, Foley’s Director of Diversity & Inclusion, collaborated with The American Lawyer and others on overhauling the method and criteria.
In addition to an overall ranking, the new scorecard includes rankings across numerous individual categories. Foley ranked in the top 37 percent and top 30 percent, respectively, for the representation of Black (No. 81 out of 219) and Asian (No. 65 out of 219) equity partners.
Robertson noted that she was “pleased to see Foley’s substantial jump in the rankings and delighted that the new scorecard methodology allows clients, recruits, and the broader legal industry to see a far more nuanced depiction of diversity at Foley and the overall legal profession,” but she added “that there is still significant work left to do in terms of the representation of racial/ethnic minorities in the partnership and within the leadership ranks of the firm.”
Robertson further noted that Foley has made substantial progress in the promotion of racial/ethnic minorities, including the recent appointment of Daljit Doogal as Chairman and CEO. “As a person of South Asian descent, Daljit is one of very few people of color leading an Am Law 50 firm. I look forward to that and Foley’s other recent progress being reflected in next year’s scorecard.”
