Travis K. Jang-Busby
Partner
Travis Jang‑Busby represents companies, boards, and investors in disputes over governance and control, and defends employers in high‑exposure employment, trade secret, and commercial litigation. He counsels the same clients on the decisions that produce both. His practice covers emerging companies to Fortune 50 organizations in a host of industries, including health care, defense, manufacturing, and biotech.
Corporate Governance and Control Disputes. Travis regularly handles disputes over governance, control, and investment at venture‑backed and emerging growth companies — founder and board disputes, including removal of officers and directors; breach of fiduciary duty and entire fairness exposure in related-party transactions; fraud and misrepresentation claims arising out of financings; enforcement of noteholder and preferred stockholder rights; and minority stakeholder strategy in contested sales and recapitalizations. Clients bring him in when a board needs to act quickly, when an investor believes it was misled, or when a controlling holder is pushing a transaction that minority stakeholders oppose.
Trade Secrets and Employee Mobility. Travis also maintains a substantial trade secret and employee mobility practice, representing companies from emerging growth through the Fortune 50 on both sides of competitive‑hiring disputes — enforcing confidentiality, non‑solicitation, and restrictive covenant obligations against departing employees and the competitors that hire them, and defending companies accused of misappropriation or raiding after bringing on talent from a rival.
He handles the counseling that precedes and follows those disputes as well: trade secret identification and protection programs, departure and onboarding protocols, team‑lift and group‑hire planning, and the multi‑jurisdictional analysis required when restrictive covenants are enforceable in some states and void in others — including under California Business and Professions Code section 16600 and its recent amendments.
Class Actions and Individual Litigation. Travis represents employers in high‑exposure employment litigation, with a particular focus on wage‑and‑hour class and representative actions under PAGA, the California Labor Code, and the FLSA. He handles these cases through certification, PAGA manageability, and the arbitration questions that now drive them. He also defends single‑plaintiff discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination claims and represents employers in agency proceedings.
Workforce Counseling and Risk Management. Alongside the litigation, Travis counsels employers on the decisions that generate it: classification and exempt status, pay practices, leave administration, workplace investigations, executive separations, and reductions in force. He draws on patterns from his extensive litigation experience to advise clients on their practices and policies.
Commercial Litigation. Travis’ broader commercial litigation practice covers unfair competition, tortious interference, and contract disputes between companies and their vendors, partners, distributors, and former principals, including matters where employee mobility, competitive conduct, and governance questions arise in the same case.
Privacy Litigation. He also defends companies against claims under the California Invasion of Privacy Act and related statutes involving website technologies, session replay tools, and tracking pixels. These claims arrive in volume and often in mass arbitration, and he manages them on that footing — coordinating defenses across filings, pressing arbitrability and standing, and resolving portfolios rather than one case at a time.
