Obtained local, state, and federal approvals for new intermodal transportation facility in Winter Haven, Florida for CSX Transportation. Process required six public hearings and involved significant local opposition. Approvals were obtained with no litigation and on the schedule required by client. New facility makes possible commuter rail system in Central Florida by relocating existing intermodal facility, freeing up tracks currently used for freight traffic to allow increased passenger traffic. This matter was widely reported in Florida media statewide, and involved a total investment of over $500 million in private, state and federal funds.
Represented The Viera Company in land use and permit approvals for a mixed-use community of 20,000 acres in Brevard County, Florida. Obtained land use approvals for new 10,000-acre mixed-use development, a five-year process completed in 2010. This Viera project allows up to 29,000 residents, plus commercial and industrial uses, to be constructed over 15 years.
